After we had turned off I-10
On the way to Pass Christian
Almost to the beach
The trees used to be so beautiful - many are gone but many are holding on. Lots of slabs where houses used to be.
The Bay St Louis bridge was destroyed by Katrina
But there was lots of new construction - designed for hurricanes
Beaches are still there
Annie's Restaurant, Pass Christian
Annie's
Annie's
For a while, my Dad kept his boat there - one of those "high and dry" land marinas
Work on rebuilding the Bay St Louis bridge
Where a girlfriend from decades ago had a house. Actually her parents, but it was given to her a while ago.
Nothing left but some of the front stairs.
My parents had a weekend house down this street years ago.
I still remembered the number
Now just a slab
Time to head out on down the road
head back to the Gulf side of the tracks
Some kind of revival tent
Good to see some kids playing volleyball on the beach. The beach was open, but at the time (July 2006), the water was still closed.
Gone
Gone
A present from Hurricane Camille still landlocked.
Beauvoir - last home of Jefferson Davis { http://www.beauvoir.org/ }
The buildings had survived much over the years, but some were destroyed and the rest heavily damaged. But they will rise again.
The marina at the old Broadwater Beach Hotel
Once, perhaps the nicest hotel in the area. It had fallen on hard times even before Katrina.
One of the tacky crap shops
Absolutely
Biloxi Lighthouse
Beau Rivage had considerable damage, but they were working feverishly to get reopened.
Even had a countdown clock for the grand re-opening.
Also, they wanted to get going before Hard Rock could open up.
Mary Mahoney's - one of my favorite restaurants with lots of memories { http://www.marymahoneys.com/ }
I like crabmeat anything here. Also the lobster. and shrimp... and...
Mary Mahoney's, Old French House, reopened after Katrina nearly killed it
Time to head back, and of course, it started raining. But at least it waited until after our tour was complete.
