NCL Sun Live - Nov 6, 2005

Well, embarkation was a breeze and my case of water along with the full bar has made it safe and sound to my room.

Really glad the water made it!

Well, time for the life boat fiasco...

My Black label ordered through NCL was finally delivered Monday - guess something about archaic Texas laws...

Ship is is pretty good shape - food is pretty darn good.

We even stopped off Cozumel today to deliver some supplies - if I had known that would have gladly donated the missed port refund to bring some more supplies.

Tomorrow is Belize, then Roatan, then ???

More later...

Some of raw notes…

Sunday Sept 6

Embarkation was a breeze – directions off NCL website were slightly in error. Follow signs that say “CRUISE”

Arrived at port around 11:55am was on the ship by noon. Registered aboard ship and was in cabin by 12:15pm

Dinner:
Seven Seas – Shrimp Cocktail, French Onion Soup, Prime Rib, Creme Brulet

Handed $20 to room stewards.

Liquor I had ordered was a no show.

Late night food a joke – waiting 45 minutes – 1hr for burgers, mini-pizza, etc. Wait staff seemed really slammed – would forget who ordered what and food would sit cooling off for a while while they looked for owner.

Mon Sept 7 – Sea Day

Liquor showed up.

Lunch – Fish, Turkey focaccia, cheeses, lyonaisse potatoes

Snack – tapas – salami, fried jalapeno, something else

Dinner – Seven Seas – Escargot, Spinach Salad, Lobster, Chocolate Soufflι

Somehow decided we were arriving in Belize early, so many tours start time adjusted.
Catamaran & Barrier Reef snorkel sold out by Monday – waited listed also bought shark ray alley ticket. Now need to turn in Shark Ray Alley. Also received notification about Jungle River Tubing and Mayan ruins which I did not sign up form. Hmmm.

Light bathroom flickering, maintenance came quickly at 10pmish and changed. Follow up call the next day to make sure everything was ok.

No ice left, 1 set of towels, plate moved but left.

Had asked for bathrobe was told they would look into, but only for suites really – no bathrobe

Mon night water was a little rocky, but nothing wild. Biz card wedged into the door of the safe kept it from rattling.

Tues Sept 8

Lunch – fried fish, fried potatoes, hamburger.

Dinner – Tapas – chicken wings (really spicy and good), bacon and onion mini-quiche (several – when they are gone they are gone), assorted olives (one with chili or chili oil – yum), capers, chopped peppers, gherkins, jalapeno poppers, salami rounds, roasted garlic (yum), brie, crusty French bread. - DELISH

Turned into Irish Pub night sing along.

Wed Sept 9

Belize – Barrier Reef snorkeling – second shift – think I will pass on next time. Snorkeling was ok – some interesting coral and the water was clear. A number of fishes but not herds. After stopped at Bannister Caye

Surprise –bathrobe showed up tonight – had no shekels on me. Will have to catch up with them later.

Think it may be another tapas kind of night!
NCL closed the bars, shops and casino while we stopped briefly in Cozumel:

The Cuban sandwich in the buffet on Thursday lunch was wonderful - think Carnival's Reuben may have been displaced, but you can get a Rueban everyday on Carnival.

Best snorkeling without a doubt was off West Bay in Roatan. You can do the Tabyana thing - I ended up with a taxi driver that took me around the island and watched my stuff while I snorkeled for a couple of hours. Loved it - went at my own pace with no follow the leader and no rushing.

Am with a large group, so haven't looked at many of the ship's activities - we have plenty on out own to do. Love the tapas, though. Do have to stop snacking on those before dinner, however.

What else, they have a laundry special - $20 for all you can stuff in the back - good sized - BUT - valid when you are in Roatan - cabin steward picks up Thursday morning and they say clothes are returned Saturday PM ?!?!? I don't need clean clothes to pack - need them to wear - so did woolite sink special. Pool towels make a good dryer and hang to finish.

No bar soap in bathrooms, so if you like, bring your own.

Very limited goody basket - just shower cap, shoe shine cloth, and some lotion.

No need for a bungy cord - had a hook if you wanted to air condition the outdoors.

For the extremely curious, the light on my balcony did work every night I tried it.

Chocolate buffet - you can get there early and wait or get there late and wait.

The only selections at lunch and dinner that I saw. The tea was typical cruise ship nasty (which meant it was fine to me), but no lemonade to cut with. They did have sliced lemons, however.

Some difference in food between Four Seasons and Seven Seas, sometimes the same. For example, tonight both will have Oysters Rockefeller for an appetizer, and Four Seasons will offer Chateaubriand where Seven Seas will offer Filet Mignon. I suspect the same piece of meat prepared differently depending on the restaurant.

Oh yeah, there was a DVD player (with remote) in the room. They try to sell/rent you DVDs, but mine from home played just fine.

Only did these low-res will see if they work - should be able to download and/or just print directly and i think they will be readable...

well, should be interesting - pics got uploaded in a random order... oh well...

looks like they remove the information/stationary book from the room the final day, so make note of the room service menu and anything else you might want to have access to. already had liberated the post cards and pen.

did i have fun ??? hmmm. I'm one of those that having fun is a state of mind and is up to me, whatever happens, but having said that, the zydeco group is on the first NCL Sun sailing out of New Orleans next November and I already signed up. You betcha!

If you go to the liquor store on board and purchase liquor after 6pm, you just carry out with you. Store is open until 9pm the last night - not sure if they run out of stuff or not.

Even though the last sunset on this cruise has happened, the week still isn't over - YET! Still hours to go before I sleep... Oh, and pack.

Finally got one batch of pictures (From Belize) posted:

Barrier Reef Snorkeling and Beach (Bannister Caye) from NCL Sun

Taken while on Nov 6, 2005 sailing of the Sun. The early morning tour sold out and they added a second one that left at noonish. Price was $69 and lasted about 3 1/2 hours.

There was a good assortment of live coral at the snorkel location, but not a lot of fish. They said we would snorkel for 45 minutes, but it was more like 30. Snorkel vests were required, but you didn't have to inflate. You did not have to play follow the leader, but were sort of herded into a somewhat confined area by the tour company. They used kayaks to keep an eye on the snorkelers and would politely tell me (several times) that I was out of bounds. Oh well.

I will preface with I'm not a beach person, but Bannister Caye did not appeal much to me - perhaps to others it would. The included rum punch on the catamaran was good enough for me - make sure they float some additional rum on top!

AOHELL shut down the pictures! Guess I'll have to locate and relocate....
