Escape the crowded cruise line tours on this Exclusive Best of Rome shore
excursion. With an average tour size of only 15 people (and no more than 30) you
will enjoy a very personalized experience that differs greatly from the 50 plus
person tours offered by the cruise lines.
Your tour begins when you are met at the cruise terminal. Here you will climb
aboard your air conditioned vehicle for the 80 minute drive to Rome. Upon
arrival in Rome, you will drive to the city's highlights. When you arrive in
Rome you will be able to see the Capitoline Hill located between the Forum and
the Campus Martius.Capitoline Hill is one of the seven famous hills of Rome.
Next you will visit the symbol of the Eternal City, the Roman Colosseum.You have
a choice of going inside or waiting till the rest of group takes the visit.If
you decide to go inside please remind us to book your fast track ticket ( 20.00
euro per person).If you decide not to go in you will have about 30 minutes to
wonder around.
Departing the Colosseum area, you will be driven by Palatine Hill and Circus
Maximus.You will then drive to the old section of Rome where you will be dropped
off near the Trevi Fountain. Here you will walk through the narrow twisting
streets to the Trevi Fountain, named after the area of Rome where it is
found.Then proceed on foot to the Pantheon.The Pantheon is an excellent example
of ancient Roman architecture. It was built in 126 AD as temple to all the gods
of Ancient Rome.
Your driver will next take you world famous Vatican City. Here you will be
provided time to visit St. Peter's Basilica, the largest church in the world,
which is reached by crossing famous St Peter's Square. Inside the church, you
will have the opportunity to see many of the fine pieces of art and mosaics on
display such as Michelangelo's "Pieta" and the beautifully carved Bernini
Pulpit.
Since St. Peter's is extremely popular please be aware that you may encounter
lines to enter the Basilica.Lines are out of control.
After your visit to St Peters, you will be driven back to your ship pier. THIS
TOUR DOES NOT INCLUDE A VISIT TO THE VATICAN MUSEUMS.
Please Note: Given the traffic in Rome, the itinerary may vary according to
local conditions. If less than 9 people are on your tour you will travel in a
small vehicle with excellent access to all sights and commentaries will be given
by your driver from the vehichle. If more than 9 people are on your tour, you
will travel in a van or minibus that will include a separate driver and guide
for the guided portion of the tour. Additional walking will be involved since
buses have limited access to the city.
MEETING ISTRUCTIONS:
The Shared Best of Rome tour departs from the port's transportation hub, located
near the main gate of the port. When you exit your ship's security area, please
look for the free shuttle that will take you to the transportation hub (6 minute
ride) where the tour vehicle will be parked. When you exit the shuttle, please
look for your local representative holding a "DriverinRome" sign. We ask all
guests to please plan to be at the designated departure location at least ten
minutes before departure time and allow a minimum of 20 minutes to catch the
shuttle.
For guests whose ship arrives at 8:00am, please make your way to the ship's
gangway area and be ready to depart as soon as the ship has cleared. Do not wait
in your room or a public area for an announcement as announcements are often
made 15 - 20 minutes after the ship has been cleared. Once the ship has cleared,
it has been cleared for all guests, despite what crew members may try to tell
